Detailed planning and tendering of the logistics areas for the site expansion of the electronics production of a smart home manufacturer

After the successful rough planning and conceptual design of the logistics areas and processes, the implementation experts of BLSG consistently accompanied the next phase of the site expansion of the electronics production of a household appliance manufacturer.
The planning of the functional areas and processes for storage and transport in coordination with the production, construction and logistics departments are prerequisites for the successful implementation of the site expansion. The integration of the new logistics and production areas and processes into the ongoing operations and a multiplication of the production volume within the next few years represent a particular challenge.
Based on a comprehensive analysis, the logistics areas and processes were defined, dimensioned and integrated into the planned overall layout. The BLSG experts specified requirements for the storage and transport technology in order to be able to optimally store and transport raw materials and finished goods and accompanied the tender and supplier selection.
The result: A detailed layout of all logistics areas, the definition of all logistics processes in the warehouse and in production in SAP EWM, and a complete specification for the tender of all required hardware and software form the basis for the realization of the successful site expansion.

Planning a new factory in the automotive sector

That BLSG consultants are experts in analysing existing production and logistics processes has often been proved. But planning an entirely new factory was a special challenge. In a multi-stage acquisition process, an automotive supplier was supported in redesigning its production facility. The customer, a newly founded joint venture, was presented a sustainable and competitive production and logistics concept, making it well prepared not only for this but for future projects as well.

You can find out what challenges are involved in planning a new factory with a variety of logistics scenarios and related calculations, and how these are solved here.       Read more

Lean production: process and layout planning to extend the buildings of a medical technology manufacturer

Great opportunities don’t come along every day. Our client, a successful medical technology manufacturer, has recognised and seized one such opportunity. The extension of the company plant to an unused factory building directly next door offered the chance to use the insourcing of logistics processes and the relocation of the assembly building to support lean best-practice logistics processes with modern equipment and to roll them out across all areas. BLSG provided advice and support for the general and detailed logistics concept and layout planning.

Development of a target picture of an ideal factory from the perspective of digitalization

How will the ideal factory of a leading automotive supplier look in 2025? Experts from the fields of production, logistics, quality assurance and IT, moderated by BLSG consultants, were commissioned by management to answer this question. In addition to developing a target image of the ideal factory, the results included a maturity model for evaluating all plant sites and a roadmap for implementation.

Design of production and logistics processes for a new production line of an existing product

An additional production site is required for a successful product that is already in production at another site. Many would simply opt for a copy-and-paste approach to this challenge. A large and successful automotive supplier was not satisfied with this, because they saw a rare opportunity not only to apply new principles and approaches, but also to test their effectiveness against the benchmark of the “old” plant.

This was the right moment to bring BLSG on board to help develop a production system that was as efficient and lean as possible.Read more
